Charles Perrault (/ p ɛ ˈ r oʊ / peh-ROH, US also / p ə ˈ r oʊ / pə-ROH, French: [ʃaʁl pɛʁo]; 12 January – 16 May ) was a French author and member of the Académie Française. He laid the foundations for a new literary genre, the fairy tale, with his works derived from earlier folk tales, published in his book.
